I used the balaclava the last week cycling trails in the Queenstown area. I needed something warm to wear under my helmet. Temperatures were 2-8 degC (less wind chill by cycling), I ended up with three layers to keep the head warm: a merino skull cap, your balaclava and a merino beanie. I pulled the balaclava up over my mouth & nose and breathed through it. The face shape is not designed for this but worked ok although the centre seam was not the best as it rubs on the nose. I was thankful here was just enough neck-roll material to still stay stuffed into the neck of my riding jacket. Obviously with a day's riding the fabric gets pretty grotty with breathing thru it, but it washed easily and dried fast. Breathing thru the fabric was easy.
